You Can Improve Your SEO Today

25 February 2018

Do you feel overwhelmed by improving SEO?

Improving SEO is important, we all know that. So why do we find it so hard to get on with it? Are you intimidated by the mere idea of trying to improve your SEO? Do you get knots in your stomach at the very idea of it? Don’t worry! You can do it! I strongly believe that SEO doesn’t have to be scary.

You can improve your SEO starting today

Creative business owners always have plenty to do. And, let’s be honest, some of it is more fun than others. If you’re like me, there’s always the little list of things that you’re putting off. There are plenty of experts and businesses who want you to buy their help. And if you want to, that’s fine. You might have better things to do with your time and energy. It shouldn’t be because they’ve made it sound too hard or technical and you don’t know where to begin.

You can do so much of it yourself.

The information is out there, so I reviewed many of the latest pieces and made you a handy guide so you know where to start. I’m going to work through it too. Get your Beginner’s Guide to SEO so you can play along too.

Let’s kick off with a “improving SEO challenge”

I need to work on mine too, so I thought we could have a bit of a challenge. You can improve your SEO and we can encourage each other along the way.  Just be sure and leave your link in the comments when you have something to share and your Instagram or Pinterest too, if you’ll be using that. Are you in? (Jump straight to Challenge #1 – the link is under repair just now) First take a breath. Improving SEO is simpler than you think. It’s a case of progress, not perfection. Every step you take helps, and some of them help more than others. And it’s a long game, you may not see the results straight away, which is all the more reason to just get started. Make yourself a hot drink (unless you’re one of those people who just doesn’t drink them – we can still be friends, but I will never understand that). Download the guide and let’s get started.

Start by knowing your audience and what you offer

Ugh. I know, some days you feel like you have nothing unique to offer. Believe me, the world needs your voice and your creativity. Whatever you make, your unique take on it makes it special. If you’d like some homework, I’d recommend either How to Style Your Brand or You Are a Badass depending what you need and which one appeals.

Challenge #1 – Your audience wants to hear from you

I’m sure you have a list of things you want to improve and get right on your website. My tendency is to wait until I get it “just right” – what I’m trying to work on is putting the work in and then sharing once it reaches “good”. My experience is that if I wait until it’s “perfect” I’ll never feel it’s ready and never share. A colleague used to remind me (and herself!) that “perfect is the enemy of done.” This is where we start. I’ll be back next week and we can face Challenge #2 together.
